Lag-free head-to-head or Internet gaming at up to 11 Mbps, without stringing wires Converts wired-Ethernet-ready game consoles to Wireless-B network connectivity Works without drivers on PlayStation2, Xbox, and GameCube Exclusive Channel Selector Button makes network setup a snap One year limited warranty
The LINKSYS WGA11B Wireless-B Game Adapter gives any wired Ethernet equipped game console wireless connection capability. If you have an existing home wireless network with a cable or DSL Internet connection, the Game Adapter lets your PlayStation, XBOX, or GameCube attach to the network so you can get into online games without running wires to the game room. Or, you can use a pair of Game Adapters to form a "cable-less cable" between two game consoles for head-to-head gaming -- in the same room, or all the way across the house!
Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Works great with the Xbox 360 Comment: I just connected the Linksys WGA11B 802.11b Wireless Game Adapter to my internet network that is run by Comcast Cable. This device works great and only takes about 15 minutes to setup. Xbox Live (360) is working so I will be happy for the next few years... Customer Rating: Summary: A great option for the XBOX 360 Comment: I have two of these and had been using them with my regular XBOX and they worked great. I then got a 360 and decided to give it a try, and am I glad that I did. It works just as it should no lag at all and I didnt have to buy a 100 dollar USB one for my 360! The internet is not like a truck, you just cant dump things on it. It's, It's... a series of tubes! Customer Rating: Summary: Works Great with my Xbox 360 Comment: Much cheaper alternative to Microsoft's $100 wireless adapter. Came with easy set-up instructions, got my 360 online in minutes. Customer Rating: Summary: Not an "out of the box" solution! Comment: I am a System Engineer. I like to think I know my way around computers, networks, and electronics, in general. I generally have a great deal of patience in configuring devices to operate on my network.
That being said, I cannot give this device a good rating. The documentation is poor and a networking novice might be in for a frustrating evening of trial and error. The claim that this is an "out of the box" solution for PS2 simply is not true.
The range is absolutely abysmal; so much so that it is worth one's time to rearrange that gaming area and string a cable rather than attempting a connection to a first-floor access point from the second story of an average house.
I do not have two of these devices in order to test head-to-head gaming as the documentation suggests.
I can't speak to using this device with the Xbox or other systems, but I suspect performance would be similar.
As a side note, this device performed similarly poorly when used to attach a laptop to the wireless network.
If one wants a true out-of-the-box solution for home networking without running cables, I recommend the Actiontec MegaPlug 85 Mbps Ethernet Adapter or equivalent device. Get two, plug them into wall plugs near the broadband router and PS2, respectively, and get your game on. Customer Rating: Summary: WORKS with 360. connection is SUB-par Comment: This item does work with XBOX 360. The connection however is not very good. I have my system on a different floor of my house. I find myself in a match of Gears of War and everyone stands still, then my connection is gone. This happens repeatedly throughtout the day. Sometimes I cannot even reach the dashboard to DOWNLOAD demos; or even check mail because it is loading or something. I think I would go with the More-expensive Microsoft Equipment.
