Each one of us can be an oasis of peace.—Desmond Tutu  Inspired by the idea that wisdom is the greatest gift one generation can give to another, award-winning photographer and filmmaker Andrew Zuckerman interviewed, photographed and filmed 50 of the world’s great writers, actors, artists, designers, politicians, musicians and religious and business leaders of our time. He posed seven questions to each of his subjects—all over 65 years of age—and their candid responses offer uniquely inspirational and often surprising insights.  Thoughts from Nelson Mandela, Frank Gehry, Judi Dench, The Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, Clint Eastwood, Ted Kennedy, Robert Redford, Vaclav Havel, Terence Conran, Buzz Aldrin, Lou Reed, Willie Nelson, Madeline Albright, Jane Goodall, Burt Bacharach, Andrew Wyeth, Vanessa Redgrave, Nadine Gordimer and many more reveal lifetimes of adversity and triumph, and present intimate insights into very public lives.  Beautifully photographed and accompanied by a documentary DVD, Wisdom is above all a timeless gift and a deeply revealing portrait of the common experiences that unite generations.

Customer Rating: Summary: A very unique book. Comment: A very unique book than everybody needs to read, so different people, so different prespectives but you will find wisdom, experience and expertise on everyone of them, you may not agree with all but you will recognize they are in the position to say what they believe.
Customer Rating: Summary: Black and White = Power Comment: Great concept and copy. Very disappointed in the large, washed out, undramatic photos which make everyone
look like pale old people. These people are icons with potent information to communicate. The photos should
have been shot in black and white, printed in tritone and with dramatic lighting to convey the soul and depth of these subjects and the wisdom they are sharing. Zuckerman really missed it.

Customer Rating: Summary: An excellent addition to photography collections that celebrate humanity, enhanced with an accompanying documentary DVD Comment: Crafted by multiple award-winning photographer and filmmaker Andrew Zuckerman, Wisdom is a coffee-table compendium of fifty original, black-and-white portraits of the world's leading writers, artists, designers, actors, politicians, musicians, and religious and business leaders. Among the people features are Clint Eastwood, Jane Goodall, Billie Jean King, Henry Kissinger, Nelson Mandela, Andrew Wyeth, and many more. All individuals are in their elder years, have dedicated much of their lives to their craft or service. The photographic portraits for each include a full page headshot and a bodyshot, and the text includes inspirational quotations and insightful essays from these renowned figures, such as Kris Kristofferson's statement "The heart is what matters most of all." An excellent addition to photography collections that celebrate humanity, enhanced with an accompanying documentary DVD.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great idea, so-so execution Comment: The concept, and the whole idea of honoring wisdom is great. And there are some wonderful pearls that come out of it. But look who was chosen. With few exceptions they have to be photogenic and look the part of a wise elder. They are famous, accomplished people. So is it surprising how many references there are to taking chances, changing the world, etc? If they were to do it again I would suggest they go to neighborhoods all over the world and ask who are those people in the area generally agreed to be wise. Not the famous, may or may not be greatly accomplished. Just quiet, private people leading wise lives and having a positive effect on the world around them. It is the most underrated and powerful way to make a better world, and what they would, no doubt, find many a wise person doing. This project is a hybrid of wisdom and attractive celebrity. A purer version of it would be that much better.
Customer Rating: Summary: Wisdom Comment: This book is a nice addition to your coffee table collection. The photographs are high quality and the writing inspires careful thought and inspiration.
